This assembly is designed to make the children think of how individual and special each one of them is.
The secondary aim of the assembly is to make children consider joining the school Chess Club!
Below I suggest a hymn, or for those schools that avoid religious overtones to their assemblies, a song, a prayer and a PowerPoint that can be used to deliver the 'thought for the day'.
The theme of the PowerPoint is the story about a Chess Child Progidy.
I'm special because God has loved me
For He gave the best thing that He had to save me
His own Son Jesus, crucified to take the blame
For all the bad things I have done
Thank You Jesus, thank You Lord
For loving me so much
I know I don't deserve anything
Help me feel Your love right now
To know deep in my heart
That I'm Your special friend
I am special,
I am special,
Look at me,
You will see,
Someone very special,
Someone very special,
It is me,
It is me.
Prayer
Lord God thank you for making me special.
Thank you that there is no one else exactly like me,
that there has never been any one like me and
that there never will be any one like me ever again.
I am unique!
Dear Lord, help me to discover those things that I am naturally good at!
Help me to work hard at them so that I become really good and can be proud of my achievements.
But Lord, help me to be kind to those who are not gifted at the things I am good at.
Help me to remember that I am unique and so are they!
Help me to value them as special too!!
Amen
PowerPoint
The PowerPoint challenges children to try something new this year. It explains what a progidy is and tells about Sammy Rechevsky who learnt chess at the age of 4 and was doing simultaneous exhibitions by the age of eight!
